UTMB Parents Council


Established in 2008, the Parents Council helps enhance communication between families and the university while providing a support network for students during their time at UTMB.


1.  Assist in improving communications between parents and the university
2.  Plan and support Welcome Weekend, the Holiday BINGO party and Party on the Plaza
3.  Engage and provide support to fellow UTMB parents
4.  Promote networking between UTMB and alumni
5.  Endorse UTMB projects
6.  Endorse annual UTMB appeals that support student-based programs


The membership of the Council consists of parents and those standing in the relationship of parents of all UTMB students. Active members of the Council shall consist of those members who pay annual dues to the Council. Annual membership dues are paid per household.

Officers and Volunteer Opportunities

The Parents Council is governed by an Advisory Board, who serves for terms not to exceed the graduation of their child from UTMB. The officers of the UTMB Parents Council consist of the President, Past-President, President-elect, Secretary, and Treasurer. Every effort will be made to recruit parents of students from each of the UTMB Schools taking into consideration geographic and demographic diversity. Committee Roles

Membership Committee: has the responsibility for recruitment and member services for the council.

Communications Committee: provides information through various media about the University of Texas Medical Branch and its students; and other information of interest to members of the association and other parents and family members of UTMB students and family members.

Events Committee: reviews and reports upon projects proposed for the Council, including all those for which funding by the Council are requested. Events supported by the Council shall focus on the needs of UTMB students.
